Our Story
Backroad Barbecue Company was founded in 2019 as a Special Occasion and Event Catering Company that offers southern style barbecue cuisine. The Southern Pride mobile rotisserie smoker and wood fire barbecue create an authentic cooking style that is difficult to replicate and rare to find nearby on a regular basis. The selection of meats and proteins along with the side menu options create a southern comfort food experience that is brought to you in any location for any event.
With just under 80% of bookings postponed and eventually cancelled/minimized in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we quickly called an audible and enhanced our offering to include Curb Service at one of our "Pop Up Takeout’s". Being mobile-friendly allowed our team to set up in a determined location and offer easy and safe availability of our food to the community. From curbside to drive through and even delivery, 2020 kept us on our heels to adapt to what was the "temporary norm" in a year we will all never forget.
The support and feedback from our customers and community has been outstanding, and is the main reason we have been able to get to where we are today. We are excited to start our next chapter with our very first brick and mortar location located in Port Colborne, Ontario. As we continue to push to be your premier choice for weddings, parties, corporate lunches/dinners and the works, we will now be offering takeout and walk-up menus to make our southern comfort food experience available to the public on a regular basis. Brandon Thomas - Owner
Backroad Barbecue
Brandon has been involved in the hospitality industry in some capacity for over 15 years. Short stints at local establishments as well as Vintage Inns, combined with 10+ years of experience in the Ribfest industry as an Operations Manager have propelled him to help build the foundation of Backroad Barbecue Company. He holds a four-year Bachelor's Degree in Business Hospitality from Niagara College, and is excited to be achieving one of his goals that he set when he started his post-secondary education.
Duncan Minor - Owner
Backroad Barbecue
Duncan has several years of restaurant experience from dishwasher to line cook. He has a Mechanical Engineering Diploma and has taken several business courses as electives. Duncan has experience working alongside Brandon on the Ribfest trucks for many summers to gain valuable barbecue and food service experience. Duncan grew up in Long Beach Wainfleet and went to school at Lakeshore Catholic in Port Colborne. He is very excited to be part of a local business community here in Port Colborne.
Landon Minor - Owner
Backroad Barbecue
Landon has vast business experience; he is now running a local commercial fishing business. He also has experience in the restaurant industry and is the reason we have been able to include fresh local Lake Erie fish on our menu. Landon has been happy to continue and expand local businesses in Port Colborne. Landon is local to the area and also went to school at Lakeshore Catholic here in Port Colborne.
